Week 1, July 6 to 10
Reuse, Recycle, Renew

As consumers, it is easy to take for granted the items we use and discard. Discuss environmental issues and reuse fabric swatches from old clothing, found objects and embellishments to re-create custom artworks such as fashion accessories, wall hangings and sculptures. Artists such as Adia Millett, Joseph Cornell and Jean Dubuffet provide creative inspiration throughout the course.
Week 2, July 13 to 17
The Glass Lab THIS CLASS IS FULL

Find inspiration in CAC’s summer exhibition, Art of Glass 2, and experiment with different techniques to create fused glass jewelry, a Pate de Vere cast glass sculpture, a glass bowl or plate and experiment with kiln carving techniques to create glass tiles.

Take inspiration from your favorite music to create an abstract self-portrait that expresses your individuality and creativity. Experiment with a variety of media and learn about artists who have used music as inspiration for their artwork.

Introduction to Digital Photography THIS CLASS IS FULL

Learn to control and make the most of your camera while mastering the basics of good composition, using light to your advantage and experimenting with color, abstract photography, portraiture and more. Basic Photoshop editing skills will also be taught to ensure quality images. Complete the class with a good understanding of your camera and techniques to create well-composed and visually interesting images. Each student will receive a CD of their images and several prints of their favorite photographs. Each student must bring their own digital camera (either point-and-shoot or digital SLR) to the class.

Experiment with printmaking and stenciling techniques to raise awareness through your artwork about local and global issues that are important to you and your role in our changing world. Generate symbolic designs for printing on a variety of surfaces including paper, fabric and more.

Painting with Light: Photographs as Works of Art

Explore different photographic techniques using light and exposure to create dynamic and evocative images with your camera. Create expressive and non-traditional images that go far beyond the summer snapshot as you learn to control your camera, shoot assignments, edit and print images. Ceramic Forms: Vessel, Sculpture, and Wall Pieces

From beginning hand-building clay techniques to intermediate projects, students learn the fundamentals of ceramics while investigating natural, human and animal forms. Explore a variety of techniques including pinch pots and slab vessels and experiment with pattern, texture and finishing techniques.
Creative Marionette Making

Explore your creative side in this marionette making workshop as you design, create and string your own character and learn manipulation techniques with your finished marionettes. All different types of materials will be used including papier-mâché, fabric, and paint.
Week 6, August 10-14
Telling Your Story: An Introduction to Animation

Members $90/Non-members $105
Collaborate with classmates to write and create a short piece of rotoscoped animation; a form of hand-drawn animation based on still video frames. Experiment with storytelling skills to write a script, draw illustrations and shoot and edit digital video to create an animation from the resulting footage. The animation will be sequenced with sound in iMovie and each student will receive a copy of the final animations.

Build drawing skills through observational studies of the human form as you focus on contour, gesture, value, anatomical structures, proportion and more. Experiment with a variety of drawing media and work towards finalized artworks.

Origami Paper Sculpture

Learn the basic forms used in traditional Japanese and contemporary paper folding techniques. Explore a wide range of origami papers and discover the rich history of this medium. Learn how line, texture, color and shape can be used to turn flat sheets of paper in the three-dimensional sculptures of birds, flowers, animals and more.
