Experience CAC’s new digital lab in this introductory course which teaches students to create and manipulate digital photographs. Learn the basics of manual digital camera functions including ISO settings, white balance, image resolution, shutter speeds and aperture settings as well as image aesthetics. Photoshop techniques that relate to file size, cropping, contrast control, color correction, selection tools, layers and masking are covered. Students are required to bring a digital camera with fully manual controls (the ability to adjust aperture and shutter speed settings). Some experience with photography is helpful.

This darkroom course covers simple to advanced technical aspects of the black-and-white darkroom (35mm and medium format) and expressive uses of the medium. Create a personal shrine or spirit house to celebrate or commemorate a special place, moment or person. Combine several collage and painting techniques with embellishments such as textured papers, fabric, photos and found objects. Students create a miniature assemblage inside the shrine that will delight anyone who opens it. Bring a sturdy box to class (wood, papier mâché, cigar box etc), a couple of acrylic paint colors and some personal items such as copies of photographs or found objects.

Artist Trading Cards

Do you have difficulty finding time to create art? Are you anxious to try a new technique, but are afraid to tackle it on a large scale? Artist Trading Cards (ATC’s) are miniature works of art, measuring 2.5” x 3.5” and can be created using any medium or technique. Experiment with a variety of mixed media assemblage, collage, painting and drawing techniques to create original miniature works of art. ATC’s are intended to be traded, not sold and participants will be invited to trade with other students and the instructor at the end of the workshop.
