Explore your creative side in this marionette making workshop as you design, create and string your own character and learn manipulation techniques with your finished marionettes. All different types of materials will be used including papier-mâché, fabric, and paint.

Instructor: Jacqueline Poutasse
Learn a variety of tips and techniques to help you compose and capture better photographs. Emphasis is placed on hands-on assignments, working with props and lighting and viewing the work of historical and contemporary photographers for inspiration. Basic Photoshop skills will also be covered. Each student must bring their own digital camera (either point-and-shoot or digital SLR) to the class.

Find inspiration in works of contemporary glass art and experiment with different techniques to create your own unique glass sculpture, painted glass canvas and jewelry. Experience working with hot raked glass, pulled glass stringers, glass murrinis and experiment with designing a wax model to cast in glass. A unique opportunity for creative expression in a fascinating material.

Introduction to Ceramic Sculpture

Explore a variety of clay techniques including pinch pots, slab vessels and coiling. Combine the techniques into a final sculptural design. Experiment with pattern, texture and finishing techniques such as stamping, carving, stains, slips and underglazes.

Draw without the traditional materials of paper, pencils or markers. Express yourself in a digital medium using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator in combination with Wacom tablets in CAC’s Digital Lab.

Drawing Machine

Explore experimental methods of drawing that will inspire you to create art everyday! Create a unique and exciting body of art work that will include drawing to music, collaborative projects, and an “art obstacle course.” Students will learn to become their own “drawing machines” with this interactive and contemporary course.

Learn the basics of throwing clay on the potter’s wheel. Create hand-thrown functional pottery pieces and explore different methods to enhance the surface through textures, glazes and paint. Look to historical and contemporary artists for inspiration and discover how your pieces can serve a purpose in your everyday life.

Origami: The Hogwarts Express

Take a trip with Harry on the Hogwarts Express! Learn how line, texture, color and shape can be used to turn flat sheets of paper in to three-dimensional sculptures of wizards, owls, dragons and more. Explore a wide range of origami papers and discover the rich history of this medium as you to create a fantasy world filled with magic!

Artist Trading Cards
TS1012; 3:30-6:15pm
Instructor: Kim Herman
Experiment with one of the newest crazes to hit the art world. Artist Trading Cards (ATC’s) are miniature artworks that are made to be traded between artists. Learn a variety of art techniques from painting and drawing to collage to create over a dozen ATC’s and then trade one of more with fellow artists on the last day of class.
