BU2 Dave Moffett
A year in the life of BU2 Dave Moffett, a Navy Seabee sent to Iraq in 2004, is memorialized in the extensive collection of mementos and memorabilia he has saved and shared. His story is chronicled in his detailed journal and in the letters he received from friends and loved ones. He describes the most frightening days of his deployment in raw, honest prose – admitting his feelings of vulnerability and helplessness. As fleeting as these moments of emotional negativity are they return periodically during the course of the year. But it is obvious that the correspondence he receives from his large circle of friends and family buoys him and keeps his spirits up. Perusing this large volume of correspondence he received makes us realize that the lives impacted by war extend way beyond the service member’s immediate family.
