Join the "wild rumpus" as Maurice Sendak’s life and work are celebrated in an exhibition that focuses on the personal viewpoint of the author/illustrator of such children’s classics as, “Where the Wild Things Are” and “In the Night Kitchen.”
Hands-on interaction is encouraged for Museum visitors of all ages as they act out the narratives of Sendak’s well-known children’s classics. Younger visitors can don a costume and become a “wild thing,” slide down into a bowl of chicken soup, or enjoy a book while sitting on Rosie’s stoop. Literacy and creativity are the rule in this exciting exhibition.
Maurice Sendak’s rich personal history, which served as a source for creative inspiration, is available for exploration through his handwritten notes, manuscripts, and illustrations as well as through a video interview that allows Sendak to be heard as well as seen.
Organized by the Breman Museum, Atlanta, GA. Many of the images in this exhibition are facsimiles taken from the original art in the Maurice Sendak Archive housed at the Rosenbach Museum and Library, Philadelphia, PA. PLEASE NOTE THAT PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE GALLERY IS NOT PERMITTED.
