The 54th Annual Boardwalk Art Show & Festival is pleased to be Virginia’s first certified green art show through the Virginia Green program. Art plays critical role in provoking thought and generating dialogue. The 54th Annual Boardwalk Art Show & Festival’s “Green” initiative aims to generate environmental awareness using the universal language of art as a catalyst for our community to focus on environmental values. Boardwalk Art Show offers the following “green” activities: Recycling Through our partnership with TFC Recycling, BWAS&F will provide recycling for its participants. Recycling will be highly visible and made available to the public with clear signage. Aluminum Cans Plastic Bottles Glass Bottles Paper Cardboard No Styrofoam BWAS&F has eliminated the use of Styrofoam cups and plates. If we have to use disposables, products will be bio-based, paper, or recyclable. Printed Materials BWAS&F currently uses electronic registration, correspondence and forms to reduce paper use. All of our show programs and other printed materials are on recycled content. Green Artists Visit our artists this year to find out how they are making strides to impact the environment in a positive way through art. Artists have shared with us through the application process some great ways they are helping the environment. Waste Reduction CAC is committed to reducing the amount of waste generated by the art show overall. We are encouraging exhibitors and vendors to minimize wastes and provide for recycling of boxes and other set up wastes. We are also encouraging the use of mass-transit and/or carpooling to this event. Many of our food vendors focus on healthier snack options.
Special thanks to TFC Recycling TFC Recycling provides responsible waste solutions for outdoor events such as concerts, festivals, sporting events and more. No matter how large or small the gathering, TFC Recycling can provide portable, all-weather recycling bins to collect plastic bottles and aluminum cans. During the Spring and Summer of 2008, TFC helped event coordinators divert thousands of pounds of bottles and cans from the landfill. TFC partnered with the Boardwalk Art Show & Festival, Shamrock Marathon, Rock n Roll Half Marathon, Festevents, Virginia Beach Neptune Festival, Sand Soccer Tournament and others to provide patrons with easy, accessible recycling. TFC works closely with event planners to coordinate Virginia Green certification for any event. If you are interested in event recycling please contact TFC Recycling at info@tfcrecycling.com or call (757) 543-5766. Visit them online at www.TFCRecycling.com
